Stalking the Gender Unicorn: World Sexual Health Day 2024
Introduction to Women's Studies | 4 September 2024
Welcome back, gender unicorn stalkers.
How is the mission to disambiguate “sex” and “gender” coming on your end?
I noticed the words “sex” and “gender” slipping all over the place on the telecast of the 2024 Democratic National Committee convention in Chicago a couple of weeks ago.
I heard lots of mentions of “women and girls.”
I heard lots of language like “no matter who you love” and “our children and who they are.”
Of note: Ashley Biden’s Violence Against Women Act birthday story in her introduction to her Dad’s baton-pass speech.
Whitehouse.gov is a good place to observe and explore contemporary usage of the words “sex,” “women,” and “gender”:

Documents update
The case study of Audrey Hale, aka “Aiden,” “the Covenant shooter,” “the Nashville shooter”
I read it. As a Tennesseean, a veteran feminist, and a gender unicorn stalker, I felt bound.
It is awful and it is sad. It is a document created by a psycho-socially fragile young woman with a childlike pornographic imagination spinning out in graphically clear homosexual torment.
How did this young woman manage to arm up with an AR-15? In her tortured ravings, she can barely deal with getting out of bed to pee.
I agree with Matt Osborne (linked above): “Hale’s manifesto is a reckoning all around.”

Sweet Campus Gender Stalking Days of Yore
Susie “Sexpert” Bright recalls her days as a campus circuit rider, reports from her longitudinal study, and invites you to take her pop quiz
I attended Susie’s 1994 University of Michigan lecture with a grad school gal squad, then was pleased to present and host her at Newcomb (Tulane) in 1998 and 2008.
I had not appreciated before today how it was Susie’s Newcomb engagements that bookended that entire era.
